About the Author
Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. After attending Dartmouth College and Oxford University, he began a career in advertising. His advertising cartoons, featuring Quick, Henry, the Flit!, appeared in several leading American magazines. Dr. Seuss's first children's book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, hit the market in 1937, and the world of children's literature was changed forever! In 1957, Seuss's The Cat in the Hat became the prototype for one of Random House's best- selling series, Beginner Books. This popular series combined engaging stories with outrageous illustrations and playful sounds to teach basic reading skills. Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped kids learn to read. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 and three Academy Awards, Seuss was the author and illustrator of 44 children's books, some of which have been made into audiocassettes, animated television specials, and videos for children of all ages. The book is cute. A bit advanced for my little one, but I also purchased the Happy Birthday baby version which was more appropriate. It is a bit long so I would say this is for an older child that has a longer attention span. I did know this when I purchased it though so I bought it with an ulterior motive. I used this at my little ones first birthday and had all his relatives and friends leave notes on the front and back pages. The beginning and end pages are pretty blank leaving a ton of space to fill with heartwarming messages.
I bought the book for my Granddaughter's 3rd BD. It's Dr. Seuss, so what's not to like? Firstly, when I opened up the book, the binding was so tight that I was afraid to open it too fast. It felt like it may snap. The pages are my real issue, though. Instead of being flat, crisp pages, all the pages have wavy bends in them, like columns perpendicular to the paper. As if the pages didn't dry flat. It's a good quality product that was made very cheaply. The binding and the pages are not made with the same quality or integrity that they were just a few years ago. Because it's Dr. Seuss I gave it 3-Stars but the book quality alone, I'd give 2-Stars. I don't understand some of the reviews on this book as some ppl say it's a small book, while others say it's a pop-up book. Mine is a very large, hardcover book with NO pop-ups. Confused as to why mine seems to be the only review regarding the pages not being flat & crisp.
Bought this book for my Kindergartner's first school birthday and asked all his classmates along with a couple of teachers to sign. His Dad and I did as well. I think you could really do for any milestone age or as a guest book at a birthday party!
I purchased this for my son for his first birthday. I had guests sign the first two pages and labeled it as first birthday and the date. Each year, i plan to have everyone sign a page when they come to visit or if we have a party for his birthday. The book itself is too old for a one year old. He will have to grow into it. There is a younger version of this book...I sort of wish I would have gotten that book, but I know in a few years I will have regretted the decision...so I'm glad I got this one after all.
We love this book! I used it as a guest sign in book for my son’s first birthday party. Each page has special messages written to him that he can cherish forever. The book is really big and it’s just such a great story!
I ordered 3 books as a gift and all three arrived damaged. One even had sticky stuff on the cover. I usually use amazon for almost everything; however, if this is the new quality, I will start using much less frequently. It’s embarassing to give gifts that look damaged. Ends were smashed and sticky substance on cover of this book. Bought as a present to be a keepsake...
Going to use as a guestbook at our son's first birthday party. Saw it on pinterest and loved it. Something our son can use and that guests can feel included for years to come.
This is a cute book that my daughter used for her son's first birthday. She had all the guests sign or say something special in the book that our sweet grandson will be able to look back and read when he is older. Great idea!
I bought this for my nephew's Dr. Seuss birthday party I threw him. The book arrived in great condition and in time. The best part about this purchase was the price. I looked all over in stores for this book and every place I found it it was ridiculously priced. I got this book for only $9 and at every other place it was $15 or more. My nephew loved this book and it is currently his favorite bed time book, except it is pretty long and he falls asleep half way through it.
