We have purchased every single Magic Tree House book thus far and plan on continuing as they come out. Our kids, ages six and four, love these books and are always wanting to know when the next 'Jack and Annie' book is coming out. Here, in Abe Lincoln At Last!, Ms. Osborne does it again! The book is just enough facts riddled throughout it to make it educational and enough fiction to make it interesting. At our children's young ages, this is the best way to introduce some history to them, as it pulls them and they are interested. Later, as they learn more history, they will revert back to what they read in these books and have a foundation. I wish we had these when I was a kid! I remember history being boring (!) and once that thought is in the head, forget about trying to make it interesting. This is the opposite: The kids are pulled into it, making it fun and they beg to read more. It's always the same ending with the kids when we read a Magic Tree House book. When we're finished (we read them as a family), they look at us and say: "Is that it? Can't we read more? Pleeeeeeeze?" They are learning the love of reading.My hat is off to you, Mary Pope Osborne! My great niece wanted MTH books for Christmas so I picked out a few for her. Thankfully you can read them out of order so I honestly just went with the cover art. turns out, these were two she didn't have already. So perfect.

This is THE BEST book about the young life of Abraham Lincoln, especially for my second grade students, who are reading this as Reader's Theater! Since I have a bigger class this year, I had to order 4 more books....they are absolutely perfect!

I have the entire collection of Magic Tree House books! My daughter loved them as a child, and I enjoyed reading them as well! I continue to buy them as new ones come out!

I bought this book at the end of my Abe Lincoln unit. I decided to read it aloud when it came in even though the unit was long past. My 3rd graders LOVED IT! I was blown away by how much they remembered from their unit. They were able to pick up on small details about him while I read aloud. I don't want to give too much away, but this is probably them most clever of the Magic Tree House series.

All Magic Treehouse books are great. This one is fun to read and full of great life lessons and history, too.

The first one arrived with the cover torn off and all I could think was “really Amazon?!” Replacement came fine

We just keep adding to his collection. For his birthday one year I had managed to fill an entire box of about 35 of these books. I did not realize it would be the best gift he got for his birthday. My grandson was tickled to death to receive this gift, he didn't seem to care about anything else he received. This one had him jumping up and down, showing them to his Dad and a big smile on his face.

About the Author

Harry Newton has 31 years studying, writing, lecturing and investing in telecommunications. He founded LAN (now Network), Teleconnect, Call Center and Computer Telephony magazines. He also founded the enormously successful trade shows Computer Telephony Conference and Exposition (CT Expo) and Call Center Demo. Newton has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and an economics degree from the University of Sydney, Australia. He is not an engineer. (This is my review for the previous edition, which applies perfectly for this edition as well)I have been buying regularly updated editions of Newton's Telecom Dictionary for sixteen years now and will continue to do so as long as Harry keeps 'em coming.I'll admit that once in a while an obscure TLA or FLA (4 and 5 Letter Acronyms) will sneak beneath Harry's radar but it doesn't happen very often. Especially when he is so willing to research tips sent to him by his loyal readers!I have found this dictionary to be indispensible in my job as a telco engineer. Harry does a great job of defining telco terms and acronyms in plain English and not by using other complex terms and acronyms. This is much more significant than it sounds at first. It is simply impossible for any professional to know every last obscure acronym and term used in this expansive and ever-growing industry over the past 100 years. Harry will help to make sure that you never have to ask anyone else what in the heck their TLA's mean. You will be the Alpha-geek. All others will bow in your presence. Life will be good.Newton's Telecom Dictionary has one more unique trait. Harry's wry sense of humor has threaded itself into many of the definitions. This is one of those rare tomes that you can sit down with and randomly read for enjoyment. Whenever there is an interesting and/or humorous story behind a telco term, Harry inevitably includes it with the definition. This dictionary can be fun to read! This is especially nice if someone walks into your work space and catches you reading your dictionary. I've worked in the telecom industry for years, and this dictionary accurately defines more telecom terms than any other. However, it is not very well-written. The style is really colloquial and inconsistent. One definition may read like it's straight out of IEEE-100, while others sound like a hallway conversation between engineers. Even within a definition, the same term may be capitalized in one instance but not in others. So, I'd put it in the library for sure, but get The Authoritative Dictionary of IEEE Standards Terms (IEEE 100), Seventh Edition and McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, too!!

This book contains so many industry-specific terms that are applicable to much more than just Telecommunications. You'll even find the odd humorous term sprinkled in there to keep things on the light side. I work in the telecommunications industry, and I have this book on my desk, by my side...Kind of like a small dog that just stares at you with his wet, beady, little eyes - eager to please, and waiting for you to show him the slightest hint of approval.I bought last years edition, and it was dirt cheap (and still painfully relevant). If you're in IT/Networking/Telecommunications, there really isn't an excuse not to own this.

I found this book very helpful in preparing a presentation for my college Datacom class. Newton's defintions are fairly simple to understand and are intermixed with some rather humorous definitions such as his definition of garage sales. I would recommend this book to any student majoring in Telecom or Computer Networking because it gives good, helpful definitions. One complaint I have about this book is that there are several spelling errors (mainly missed letters on the end of plural words) in the definitions I looked up which I found distracting.

Anyone new or old in the IT field should have a copy. Lots of useful information and good, clearly defined terminology. A must for any NOC, as well as consultants- or anyone looking for clarification with the alphabet soup that is technology.

Just finished a Computer Information Systems class and very glad I had Newtons. All of my classmates struggled finding simple defintions such as "JAVA", although I was surprised not to find "People Soft" in it. Made the class a lot easier, and made me walk away from the class with my moneys worth.While [...] just as good (and free), it's not a book is it? Books will be there in 30 years. Where will the ebook in your RAM be in 30 years.

A very good book with every possible telecom term defined. Of course, I do not know that for a fact, but it is a very good book, and it would definitely be a great tool for anyone in that line of work.
