I read all 7 books, and it has been a while since I read them. Enjoyed them for the most part but had to remind myself that they were YA books a few times. I can deal with vampires, witches, different dimensions but got totally irritated with the end. After getting her babies and going back to the Shade, Sophia toddles off to plan a wedding leaving the babies with someone else to tend to (squirrel!!!!!!). Then after the wedding, settles down to nurse the babies! I found that incredibly annoying, because breastfeeding doesn't work that way. We have no idea how old these babies are, Sophia was turned into a vampire and back to human, and she is still gonna breastfeed those babies? Not possible. Maybe most teenagers would have no clue about how that actually works but that one detail totally blew it for me. Fantasy is one thing, but get the real stuff right at least.
I barely made it through this one. By the end of #5 and beginning of #6, I was starting to think that a natural disaster that would wipe them all out would be better all the way around. Then, I started praying for a natural disaster that would wipe ME out so that I wouldn't have to finish #7. I obviously won't be going any further with the Novaks. I wish them well, but Goddess bless and never darken my doorway again.
Derek is still struggling to control his powers especially now with his son and wife taken from him. Sofia awakens to the shock of her life and is forced to do terrible things. Arron takes Aiden to Aviary and leaves the hunters for good. The witches of The Sanctuary finally choose a side and make some decisions that will affect everyone. Derek and Sofia once again prove how strong their love is and the get what they've always wanted. A couple finally gets their long awaited and much deserved happily ever after. Thanks to the witches the shade is rebuilt better than ever and it looks like some much needed peace is on the horizen also.

A Break of Day is the exciting conclusion to Sofia and Derek’s story and a great introduction for the series to move forward onto Kiev’s journey.My Likes:A great story of the triumph of good over evil!The meaning of their journey to “true sanctuary†was not what I had expected. It was much more exciting and surprising than I thought and who doesn’t enjoy that?It has a happy ending that’s a little silly but completely understandable after what these characters have been through. They needed to let their hair down and just enjoy themselves. Most people would act the same way I believe and this gave the book its realistic appeal for me.Great emotional content. Triumph, grief, love, relief, worry and happiness. It has them all!Very noticeable and quite significant changes in each character over the journey. Especially those who live at ‘The Shade’.My Dislikes:None! I want more! I want more! I want more! (I’m pretty sure you expected me to say that) ;-)This series is seriously, interesting, intense and exciting. I highly recommend it to fans of supernatural reads.Fantastic 5 stars!
I am a great lover of Vampire stories, be it books, movies, TV series, etc. That being said, I am also VERY selective about which of those stories I get into and follow. I adored Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles (and the movies that went with them), and True Blood, but couldn't care less about such stories as Twilight... It has to have the right feel for me to stay involved..I had never heard of Bella Forrest until I started seeing ads for A Shade of Vampire, but I didn't pay attention--at first. Then, I went and read the synopsis, and decided to give it a try. I read a couple of chapters, and eventually discovered it was one of a series, so I went back and purchased the rest of the set.From the moment I arrived at The Shade, I was in love, captivated! I laughed, I cried, I felt the pain of battle-- and I will read them all again. My only regret is that I didn't find these masterpieces sooner!
So far I have read the series "A Shade of Vampire" volumes 1 -- 9, and it has been like a fun ride at the midway. The characters are attractive, sexy, and compelling. The plot lines and and settings lure me into a phantasmagoric world that is engaging and entertaining. I have to restrain myself from reading too many of these like I have to hold off from eating too much chocolate.
What a great series of books!!!! First, I have to say, that I rarely ever read this type of books. But, this was just so different. I loved Derek and Sofia, the story they told, truly showed how strong their love and commitment that they had to and for each other. With all of the heart aches, and obstacles they had to face, WOW!!! Also, all the other characters in the first seven books that I've read, I liked each and every one of them, and the parts they played in the whole series. I don't know if I will read anymore vampire, witch, hawk or any other creature out there but, I sure can't say enough about how good these books were.
