This is a good book but since it is written from a woman's point of view, let me give you a man's point of view about reasons why her husband divorced her. In doing research for my marriage book, I asked a lot of women one question: when you were fantasizing about"happily ever after" did you ever even one time consider what happily ever after looks like for the man in your fantasy? NOT ONE WOMAN HAD. Men also want happily ever after too. Guess what is at the top of their list in achieving "happily ever after," a willing and loving wife who never rejects his sexual overtures so that he no longer has to masturbate to relieve his sexual tension. According to Kinsey stats: 72% of ALL MARRIED women over thirty have their husbands on a STARVATION DIET OF SEX ONCE A WEEK OR LESS! A man in this age demographic REQUIRES sexual relief 3-5 times a week.So the the men are quietly furious. The famous playwright Thornton Wilder said that: "most men lead lives of quiet desperation" They are stuck with all the responsibilities with few of the perks of marriage, chief of which is a good sex life.It is compounded by the fact that women brook ABSOLUTELY no critique of them. If a man does, he is met with screaming, name calling, door slamming (most often the bedroom door) with the intent on teaching that "no good man" to never ever critique her again. This while she reserves the absolute right to critique him at will. Most men learn the lesson all to well and seethe in silence, nursing a quiet rage towards the wife. The number one cause of divorce is the lack of conflict resolution skills which don't come naturally. What comes naturally is fighting where everyone loses.I say all of this, because throughout the book, the author is clueless about why her husband cheated on her and divorced her. It is very simple, ladies, if you treat his wants, needs and desires as expendable then he starts to consider the wife expendable. Do you think Nancy Reagan ever told Ronald no to his sexual desires? He was just as much in love with her at the end as the beginning. Women often put their husbands down for their sexuality. This is cruel and unfair. This is the way God made us. The testosterone that drives his sexual urges is the same testosterone that drives a man to potentially lay down his life to protect his family. How would you like it if a husband critiqued you for having a period. It is all about the hormones for both parties. NEVER EVER CRITIQUE HIM AGAIN FOR HIS SEXUALITY!Part of the problem is that churches teach kids in general and little girls in particular, that sex is: "bad, dirty and wrong and good girls don't do it". They NEVER teach all the sex positive messages from the Bible. As a result many women come into a marriage with a whole host of harmful sexual inhibitions. The churches also don't teach conflict resolution skills. Neither do most main stream marriage counselors. This is why the dirty little secret in the counseling industry is that their average failure rate is a whopping 70%. Would you go to any helping profession where they lost 70% of their patients. The solution is to go to a marriage coach whose average success rate is 80%.Let me give you an example. Back in the seventies there was a nation-wide ministry entitled: The Total Woman Seminar. The author and leader told women not to treat their husbands sexual desires as expendable, or disposable but to make it her top priority. The football coach of the Miami Dolphins had the players wives take this seminar. Not only did it save marriages around the country but the Dolphins had back to back Super Bowl wins, the first ever in football history but also the first ever undefeated season. Taking care of your husbands needs enables him to become the man that he is capable of and is echoed in Proverbs 31 where it says that "his heart he safely trusts in her so that he has no need of spoil". The word spoil means concubine which was a second class wife who took care of the husbands sexual needs when the primary wife denied him.It is re-stated in I Cor 7 where it says that your body is not your own but your husband's and that you don't have a right to deny him nor does he have the right to deny the woman.Just thought that you should know. The reviewer is the author of the Kindle book entitled: Sex Education for Adults, Secrets To Amazing Sex and Happily Ever AfterToo
I read this so I could speak compassionately with someone going through a divorce should the need arise, and wow, there is so much good advice in here! I would even give this to those not going through a divorce but are in a loveless marriage where the husband is emotionally gone, even if there are no plans for divorce. This has what such wives need to hear. Great stuff! Also great are the recommended resources in the back of the book.
I gave it 1 star because the system required a star before I could submit, otherwise, I wouldn't have given it even one star. Someone close to me was going through a divorce and I thought this book would be a help for her. I saved it for a certain time, and didn't realize I was past the return date. I opened the book before passing it on and was so disappointed. The book pages were published backwards. The title page was actually the last page in the book and the appendix was the first page. Not only that, they were facing the wrong direction. In order to read the book, you have to start at the back and make sure you turn the pages in the correct order (according to how it was put together, not how the author intended). This was such a disappointment. I wanted to help the person, not confuse her. Needless to say, since I missed the return date, I wasted the money. Publishers should do a better job before they ship out the books. I probably won't buy anything more from this author or publisher because I don't want to waste money again.
I am in the process of a separation and wanted to read some books about written by women who have actually been where I am today. My husband walked out unexpectedly. This was a great read and encouraging to get my mind off my life at the moment. I really will refer back to this many times during this trial. I would recommend to any woman going through a separation or divorce. Good luck!
Wonderful book written in a clear, concise and empathetic style. Covers so many issues in a friendly, caring way. This author has vaulted to the top of my list in the venue. If you are in the midst of, friends with someone, or as in my case, the mother of a child going through a divorce, please read this! The Christian viewpoint was so helpful.
Going through a divorce is hard! I'm currently going through one now... I'm so glad I found this book! I honestly couldn't put it down. The writer really does speak the truth, just like a close friend would. She doesn't sugarcoat or pussyfoot around sensitive subjects. She gives great, biblically founded advice!
Thank you Suzanne, when I read this book it was like having a good christian girlfriend at my side. Thank you for being honest about this painful subject! Great reminders about scripture and Gods love. I am comforted at not being alone.
Love this book! The author is definitely a down-to-earth Christian woman. She focuses on you growing through the journey of a painful divorce. She is practical while supplying sound Godly counsel. She is transparent and makes you feel like you are definitely chatting with your girlfriend. Loved this book! Easy read...only took a few days. Page-turner.
This book has helped me in so many ways. At one point, I felt myself becoming even more bitter about my situation and my soon to be ex-husband. However no sooner did I realize it, I came to chapter 11, a chapter about forgiveness. Those pages did a number on me. I did a lot of highlighting and notewriting in my book. It's really beat up which only goes to show how much I used it.
