This book provides a good overview of how to become a successful professor (which perhaps differs from what I would consider being a "good" professor). The underlying message is that conflicts of interest exist between tenure-track faculty, members of the department, and the college/university. In order to be successful, faculty members must focus on developing a research track record that will make them valuable to their institution (and an attractive candidate to others) rather than spending their energy on teaching and service efforts to please students/members of the department.Overall this is a quick read and has some good advice that is somewhat obvious, but rarely formally given (e.g., if your department wants to do something stupid, let it - as a nontenured professor, you are essentially a temporary employee / It is better not to make tenure because members of your department personally hate you rather than spending too much time on service to please people; someone who spends all their time on service will have a CV that makes them no longer employable at any institution).

I love this book. So many good advice told in "to-your-face" manner. It's not only good for tenure, also for anyone in academic who want to move up the ladder and want to know what to focus on.

An entertaining read, although the writer particular sense of humor may not be for everyone

Excellent book on the subject.Author is an attorney and is good at identifying and explaining strategies.If you have a PhD, you are already smart and hard working. What I don't have is the experience to know the strategies that do work and the way of looking at situations that is simple and effective.Unlike Boice (get 2 of those one for home and one for work), only buy one and leave it at home. Nothing illegal in here but some provocative advice that may offend the very colleagues with whom you are trying to build effective relationships.You can take 7 years of your life to figure out this information or just get this book and learn the game quickly....Bottom line: Worth reading at least twice and I felt better after reading the first chapter.

Getting a doctorate or working toward tenure is an ambiguous meandering path that drives everyone NUTS. But Dr. James comes along and pulls back the curtain and says, here are the rules --follow them. One take away is when someone asks you to do something, consider "will this get me tenure?" if the answer is no, say no. Why didn't anyone else tell me that? Or that a tenure packet isn't for your current position, it's for the next position, either where you are or where you move to -- that's a game changer in my thinking.

First of all, I have not read this book cover to cover. I have used it as a manual for task analysis in bits and pieces. Eventually, I will read it cover to cover, as it deserves this attention and I need the information.I was recommended this book by a colleague and since recommended it at least a dozen times myself to fellow human factors engineers and software/system designers. It had the answers to many of the practical questions I was asking and being asked.This book gives practical advice on how to analyse a task based on the "things that need to be done" to the "people that need to do them". Based on the recommendations, these are not "pie in the sky" ideas but practical tips from the people that do this work day to day.If you read through the table of contents that Amazon provides you will find most if not all of your questions on how to go about this type of work answered within the pages of this book.Briefly the Chapters are broken up into main segments of this type of work:1. If there is one strong message in this book, it is: Go talk to the people who will use your product. It's an important message. Software designers and writers spend too much time with each other developing clever tricks, while the poor user, often left to self-train with a poorly written manual, gives up in frustration. The authors follow their own advice--in addition to telling you how to conduct a site visit to the end users, there are clear instructions (based on experience) on planning a visit, structuring questions, how to make the site visit useful for both the analyzers and the users, and figuring out what the user said and what it means about the product. There are reminders about release forms and examples of the forms themselves. Case studies help make the points clear and undestandable. A thoroughly readable book in clear and simple language that can be started anywhere for quick help, or read cover to cover for a complete course.

I just finished planning a contextual inquiry for a new product. This book covered everything I needed to know, from how to structure the plan to suggestions on what to bring for gifts. I especially like the paragraphs that describe real things that happened to the authors and their friends while doing these studies.If you are considering any kind of site visit or field study in order to learn about the end users of your product (AND YOU SHOULD), you will find this book highly useful. It was a joy to find a book that blends theory and practice as well as this one does. It is clearly written from a wealth of professional experience -- stories and examples illustrate almost every important point. The blend of theory and practical advice is just right. The writing style is clear and direct, setting a nice tone for the practitioners (or those just learning) that the book addresses. Hats off to Hackos and Redish.

This book is a perfect starter text for students and new comers to interface design. I have found it to be the most concise collection of interface methodology in print. I am currently using this book to guide my college level communication class through a user-centered design curriculum. They have found it to be some of the easiest material written on these subjects to digest.

This book was the best out of several others that I have read realted to usability engineering or UCD. It had several practical examples and stories attached to each topic. Its excellent for starter as well as proffesionals who are working at companies and have to justify several things. Several formates for reports and other resources are available for conducting a good Users and Task Analysis. More so its really easy and interesting to read with all the stories and the diagrams.

I like it a lot this book, because really can help you how to do a Good Design, The book show a lot techniques an examples than help you to understand and make it easy. This book has usability itself. I enjoyed a lot.

I agree with just about everything that Dr. Hasib puts forth in his book on cybersecurity leadership. When most think of cybersecurity thoughts tend to trend towards security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, web security appliances, etc. While the latter is certainly an important aspect of a cybersecurity program they are only part of what we hope to be an effective cybersecurity program. Dr. Hasib rightly asserts the cybersecurity must become part of an organizational culture that is inculcated on a consistent basis. Moreover cybersecurity leaders must understand an organizations culture and business that a cybersecurity program is designed to support. We cannot be effective leaders without understanding an organization’s mission, core competencies, financials, and competitors and using this information to design and implement cybersecurity architecture that complements and enables an organization for success.The one area where I would differ with Dr. Hasib is the reporting structure of CIO and CISO. Here I would go one step further and move the CISO from under the CIO and have him or her become a direct report to the CEO. The very nature of cybersecurity mandates that it touch just about all areas of an organization to include its information technology departments. There is potential for conflict between a CIO and CISO if the CISO is a direct report to the CIO. Although we have evolved from the IT department as cybersecurity professionals we are also aware of the significant amount of power and influence IT professionals have at their fingertips. Thus the IS (information security) department should become its own entity so it has the ability to further scrutinize the same department from which it originated.In closing Dr. Hasib’s book on cybersecurity leadership is one of those you should add to your library in our pursuit of excellence on this topic of cybersecurity.

This kindle book is easy to understand and is very useful. This amazing masterpiece is more than just a technical book on Cyber-Security as it clearly lays out how to look at Cyber Security from a leadership viewpoint.I grew-up a datacenter engineer and have dealt with every technology related to virtualization much before the name of "Cloud & Cyber Security" could have come to people's thought However, this book has developed a distinctly different perspective for me. Therefore, Execs and senior industry leaders can use this book as a guide to help drive their organizations towards sustainability while coping-up with technological advancement.I have both the versions of Cyber-Security Leadership, Audible as well as Kindle and I truly enjoy combining listening & then connecting his words while reading that on my kindle app. I like to gain knowledge from many audiobooks during my commutes and this one is by far one of my favorites.Well actually, the audible version of this is a continuous play in my car during my daily commute. Very well narrated and very Informative.I recommended it for every Cyber Professional, Business Leaders and Academic Professionals as it is very essential in today's world.I will soon buy one hard copy to keep it on my book shelf for sharing it with friends & colleagues of same interest. The book really provided me with great insights and valuable information that aided major parts in my thesis literature.
